We haven't been to the Renaissance Faire in several years, so we were excited when our friends Carlo and Amy invited us to go with them. Their girls, Penny and Cece, get along great with our kids (Cece is artistic and loves acting and singing in musicals, and Penny is really into Zelda and other video games), so it's fun for everyone when we get together.
CC didn't have much time to put an outfit together, but she borrowed this one from her friend Scarlett. She's supposedly ... a mushroom fairy? I thought it was really unclear what she was, but you see all kinds of random costumes at the Faire (hello, Star Trek!). So I was surprised to see many hats just like CC's, both being worn by other people and sold at the shops! She received quite a few compliments, so I guess I'm just not a good judge of costumes.
As always, our favorite event was the jousting. We sat in the section that cheered for the black and gold knight, which was perfect because those are Army's colors. And he won!
Little Man got a giant turkey leg; the girls and I shared soup bowls, and we threw tomatoes at the insulter. CC fell in love with the beautifully decorated corsets for sale, but I was shocked that they were hundreds of dollars! And Little Man and I were impressed when we walked through the armorer's shop to see all the beautiful and deadly blades for sale.
Unfortunately, Carlo and Amy didn't stay long. After they left, we let each of the kids pick out a little souvenir. The girls loved these pretty fans.
Against our strong objections, MJ let Little Man pick a large wooden sword. Want to place bets on how long it'll be before someone gets hurt or something gets broken?
