We did something this year that we've never done before -- go to the beach twice in one summer! And we invited Grandma and Grandpa to come along. After all, they live here now and we wanted to show them our favorite place.
Weather threatened to ruin the trip, but fortunately it wasn't as rainy as I feared -- although we did get drowned by a deluge on our first day. But for the most part the skies were cloudy, and that was fine with me -- it protected us from the fierce sun!
We introduced Grandma and Grandpa to pirate mini-golf, Little Man's favorite beach activity. Grandpa got a hole-in-one, and MJ got two! The owner of the course let us all in for free, because three of us were veterans. "Don't worry," he said with a wink. "I'll make it up from some draft-dodging hippie!"
The kids discovered a new love of digging in the sand. They spent far more time digging than swimming, this time. One day we built a huge sand castle (check out the storm that's about to unload on us!).
Another day the kids spent all morning digging giant holes.
We caught a giant crab (by our standards).
Little Man experienced the joy of chasing seagulls, and expended more energy than he ever has at the beach before.
We rode the trolley; we watched Army win; we went for walks and played games and ate ice cream. MJ made me breakfast in bed every morning. Sally and Fran visited with some Navy friends they hadn't seen in 40 years. It was good.
