Mother's Day

What a strange Mother's Day it was this year. I wasn't able to see my own mom, and we could only see MJ's mom briefly and from a safe distance. Still, I am happy that we are all safe and healthy, and it was fun to think of creative ways to celebrate, despite the social distancing.

MJ and the kids pampered me all day, starting with breakfast in bed, which included two different kinds of cake and lots of prosecco (they know the way to my heart).

There was a lot of whispering and giggling behind closed doors this past week, and admonitions from the kids not to look in CC's closet because they were making a surprise for me. And I couldn't believe it when they showed me! It was a Lego version of our house, with our family standing out front (even Amber!) and "Mommy" spelled out in 3-D letters on the roof. It was so precious!

I asked MJ to take a picture of me and the kids, standing next to the dogwood tree my parents gave me last year for Mother's Day. My plan is to take a picture there every year, so we can watch the kids (and the tree) grow! I just need to keep it alive.

We videochatted with my parents, played games, ate more cake with Grandpa and Grandma on their fire escape, and enjoyed a beautiful day together. It was a little bittersweet, like all our special days now, but it was wonderful in its own way. I am looking forward to lots of hugs once it's safe for us all to be together again!
