There were a lot of references to Blueberries for Sal: how we ate almost as many as we picked, and how our berries didn't make a "plunk" noise in our buckets after the bottom was filled.
We practically had the whole farm to ourselves, which was a relief and made for very pleasant berry-picking. And even the weather cooperated: it was cloudy, which kept the temperature reasonable (and made for nice pictures!).
We have seven pounds of blueberries and blackberries now (plus some zinnias, which were growing wild all over the place). We made a blueberry buckle as soon as we got home, and a blackberry cobbler a few days later. But we ended up giving away the rest, because we didn't want the delicious ripe berries to go to waste!
The outing was nostalgic for me, because the last time I picked blackberries was decades ago, when we would visit my Memere. She had blackberry bushes growing by her fence, and we'd pick and eat them right off the bush.

For future reference, you can freeze blueberries in individual packets for later use on cereal or ice cream, or freeze the whole bunch for cobbler or pie.
