It was a great Christmas! It might have been the first time we didn't have tears on Christmas (in the past, the excitement and overstimulation always resulted in a meltdown at some point). We made the kids wait until 6:30 to get up, and we were done with presents by about 7:05, and settled in for a nice, long day of eating and playing and relaxing.
Santa brought CC a skateboard, Little Man a metal detector, and Sweet Pea a "Bedazzler" that can affix gems to virtually anything.
The kids also each got a big Lego set from me and MJ. Sweet Pea's was a yellow Fiat car, with over 1,000 pieces, with an age recommendation of 16. She did the whole thing on Christmas afternoon, and was so proud to have completed her first "Expert Level" set. Little Man received The Razor Crest set (The Mandolorian's ship), which he's wanted for months. And CC received the Hogwarts Great Hall, which was perfect for our little Harry Potter-obsessed Muggle.
The kids gave MJ the newest version of the NFL Madden PlayStation game, and he and Little Man have been exploring all the new features. Little Man found a Game Boy in his stocking, and MJ had fun showing him how to play all the old games that we used to play when we were kids.
Once it was a reasonable hour, we videochatted with Memere and Pepere to share the excitement of our morning. In the middle of the call, CC's tooth came out! What an extra Christmas surprise. It was her first molar.
Later in the afternoon, Grandma and Grandpa came over for a brief gift exchange. The kids each unwrapped their "big" gift -- tiny model bicycles. They stared at them for a few minutes, and eventually CC gushed, "I love it! Thank you!" which made me snort. Finally, Grandma explained to them that they would buy each child a new bike, once we had a chance to go out to a bike shop.
We have spent the last few days happily at home, watching Christmas movies, eating incredible amounts of junk, watching football, and staying warm. It has been a really nice holiday.
