Gymnastics Practice

Sweet Pea's been doing surprisingly well in gymnastics since her favorite coach left. But I want her to build an equally strong relationship with her remaining coach, Alex. This has already started, with practices four times a week. But Sweet Pea and I also agreed that it would be good to have some private sessions with Alex, so they can work one-on-one and get to know each other a little better.

Yesterday was the first one, and as always, I loved watching her work. Coach Alex is very knowledgeable about gymnastics, and I appreciated hearing his feedback on Sweet Pea as they worked. (Plus, I used the opportunity to practice using my new camera.)

They spent the first 30 minutes working on bars, specifically on Sweet Pea's "kip" -- an advanced method for mounting the bars. It requires a ton of triceps strength, and after half an hour, I was surprised she was still able to try!

Then they moved to floor exercises, where Sweet Pea worked on her front handspring (much harder than a back handspring) and her front tuck (like a somersault in the air).

Lastly, they went to the beam, where she could work on her front tuck dismount and her back walkover.

She was a tired cookie last night!
