Escape to the Mountains

For the long weekend, we escaped to the quiet and calm of the mountains. We tried a different place this time -- an actual log cabin -- and it was wonderful.

The cabin property was on the very top of a mountain, so every morning we could watch the sun rise out the front windows and set out the back windows. There were hawks flying around constantly, and a pretty little lake at the bottom of the valley.

Down by the lake was a stream and a pretty waterfall, so one morning we hiked all the way down to explore. The kids rock-hopped, climbed the waterfall, jumped off boulders, and tried (unsuccessfully) to build a little dam/bridge across the stream.

All weekend, we made the most out of the activities at the cabin: a Pac-Man machine, an air hockey table (that Sweet Pea kept adorably calling "ice hockey"), a hot tub that we used at least twice every day. We brought a 1000-piece puzzle from home and finished it in the first two days -- a new record!

We alternated between building fires in the fireplace indoors, or in one of the fire pits outside. The hosts left us all the ingredients to make s'mores, which we made short work of!

Amber made off with Little Man's first two toasted marshmallows, so they had a standoff for the remainder of the evening.

Now we're refreshed and revived -- and it's back to the real world!
