Summer Swim

CC was really excited about our summer swim league this year, and -- surprise! -- so was Sweet Pea. She decided to give it a shot (much to CC's dismay) and really loved it! She earned plenty of ribbons and her smile was always ear-to-ear.

Grandma and Grandpa attended their last meet of the season, and got to see Sweet Pea win her heat (ribbon!) and CC complete a 100-meter IM. Impressive!

They got pretty into the themes for each home meet. Most impressive were their outfits for "Red White & Blue" day. Shockingly, neither of them won awards for "most spirit." Can you imagine the outfits that did?!

At the end-of-season banquet, Sweet Pea earned the "Most Improved" award for 9-10 girls. That's the same award that CC won at her age! What a coincidence! And her good friend Charlie won the "Backbone" award, so they celebrated together.

We're so proud of them! Swimming -- especially in early Spring -- isn't always comfortable. But the girls did great, rarely complaining, and really tried their hardest. I'm impressed with their work ethic and competitive spirit.

CC became more magnanimous about swimming as the summer progressed -- as long as Sweet Pea didn't seem interested in joining her year-round team (which she isn't). She made her goal of being selected for the all-star team, albeit as an alternate, which was disappointing. But we reminded her that her age group is particularly strong at our club, and at a less competitive club, she would have a better chance of being a primary swimmer.

CC says she wants to be a coach when she gets to high school, which I think is a great idea.
