Sweet Pea and Little Man's cotillion program is over. I'm disappointed to announce that they have not transformed into genteel, courteous aristocrats, but are still the same raised-in-a-barn animals that they've been since they were born. However, it was fun to see them dress in their fancy outfits every week for a while! (Literally -- the exact same outfits every week. They never varied, despite me purchasing several options for them before cotillion began.)
Their final event was a dance, and I very happily signed up to chaperone. I was shocked to see that Little Man is a really good dancer! He took it seriously and made every step. He and his partner won the prize for the shag (which in my opinion was the hardest dance). Sweet Pea and her partner won the jitterbug contest, so both of them received a Ben and Jerry's gift card.
For every dance, the kids switched partners. My favorite was when Little Man danced with a girl who was about two feet taller than he was. Of course that was the contest for the waltz, where each pair had to hold a tennis ball between their foreheads! They were eliminated almost immediately, and all the parents got a good chuckle out of it.
I was so thrilled when they danced together (which was not their choice -- each partner was based on a rotation, so I was just lucky that they danced with each other!). They really appreciated me stalking them like paparazzi to take pictures. Ha!
Despite their protestations, I am definitely signing them up again next year. These kids need all the help that they can get.
