4th of July

Happy Independence Day!

We spent it at Brett's house again, and had a lot of fun with several families we've known for years. We bought a lot of big fireworks and brought them along, plus sparklers and poppers. The kids splashed in the pool, and the adults chatted, and everyone ate till they were stuffed. The men did an ill-advised "hot pepper" challenge with ghost peppers and Carolina Reapers -- and there were lots of tears and coughing (from them) and laughter (from the rest of us).

Cece and CC have really clicked the last few times we've seen them. It's sweet! Cece is younger than CC, but they have a lot in common -- they are both very artistic, and are avid readers. We've already made plans to go see Cece in a musical she's performing in next week.

I'm so thankful for great friends, and for this wonderful country!
