Yesterday Sweet Pea had another checkup for her hemangioma (she goes every month, and everything's fine), and while we waited for the doctor to come in, the nurse and I entertained her with some bubbles:
On a related note, this is the nicest doctor's office I've ever been to in my life. It's a pediatric oncology clinic, (because a hemangioma is technically a blood tumor), and the receptionist knows all the patients by name. A staff member does art projects with the kids in the waiting room. The toys in the lobby are amazing -- nicer toys than I have at home! There is always a musician, or a clown, or a puppeteer, or someone performing. Yesterday was a musician with drums and several guitars for the kids to play with.
Once we are escorted back to an exam room, a nurse stays and plays with us until the doctor arrives. And on our way out, there's a huge box of free toys for kids to pick from. I really can't get over it -- the attention they give to Sweet Pea is incredible.
It almost makes me feel bad that we benefit from such a wonderful clinic when Sweet Pea isn't really sick. But it also warms my heart a little, knowing that kids who are sick get treated so well.
