Sweet Pea's Hemangioma

I haven't been posting here about our continued treatment of Sweet Pea's hemangioma, because I've been keeping this page updated with all her improvements and changes.

But I have big news to report!

The day after Christmas, Sweet Pea took her final dose of Propranalol (the drug she's been taking to reduce her hemangioma's size and color).  Her doctor had been slowly weaning her off the drug for several months now, and at this point she's completely off.  After 11 months, I'm thrilled that she's not taking the medication anymore!

We are also fairly satisfied with how she did on Propranalol.  She experienced virtually no side effects, and the hemangioma is much smaller and lighter than it was at its peak.  Many people experience much more dramatic improvement than we did, and often children's hemangiomas will disappear entirely while treated with Propranalol.

But Sweet Pea's improvement was still significant.  Not only can we see the difference in pictures, but strangers' reactions out in public have changed.  People used to say, "What's wrong with her nose?"  And now they say, "Oh, did she bump herself?"

Sweet Pea will likely need some laser treatments in a few years to remove it completely, but hopefully it will be a much smaller procedure than it would have been if we'd done treatments 11 months ago.
