Chickensitting

Last weekend, we took care of our neighbors' chickens while they were out of town. It was so fun! They are pretty easy to handle: just open their door to let them out of the coop in the morning, and close it back up safe at night. If we were feeling adventurous, we could let them out of their yard to free range for a bit:

The girls (especially CC) were the most excited about the chickens, and couldn't wait to pet and touch them. But Little Man was the only one brave enough to actually hold one. By the end of the weekend, he could actually chase them down and catch them!

They are only about 4 months old, so unfortunately we didn't get any fresh eggs this weekend! Tasha is the blonde one, an Orpington, and definitely the most social. Uniqua is a Rhode Island Red. Pablo (a Wyandotte) and Tyrone (an Americana) are both black-and-white speckled, but we could tell them apart because Pablo has an orange streak above his beak.

Amber was equally fascinated. The kids begged to "let Amber can play with them." Uh -- no chance. I didn't want to explain to my neighbors why their chickens were gone, while Amber licked her chops!

After it was all said and done, I have to admit: I think the Morrisons have chickens in our future.
