Nature Calls

Our outing this week was to a very small nature preserve nearby. It has massive exposed boulders, which were fun for the kids to climb around. Plus, there's a little stream that trickles through the preserve, perfect for wading and splashing and trying to catch little minnows.

We'd been here once before, although the kids were much younger and weren't able to climb the huge rocks. They still needed help with some of the rocks, but for the most part they could do it themselves.

We took Amber with us, although once we arrived I realized I'd forgotten her leash. Argh! Fortunately I found an old bungee cord in the back of my car, and that worked until we were far enough away from anyone else that I could let her loose. What a blessing that she's not a runner like Rory was! She stuck right with us like the good girl she is. And she went nuts when she discovered the sand by the stream! We laughed out loud, watching her rolling, jumping, and rubbing the sand all over herself.
