It's started! Finally! This is something we were supposed to do last March, but exactly one week before demolition was scheduled to begin, Covid shut everything down. And with MJ working from home and the kids doing virtual school, I was afraid we'd never be able to do it.
But finally MJ and I decided to bite the bullet and get it done. The cabinet and appliance companies won't be able to store our new things forever, and our contractor is more than willing to use strict safety measures. They're all wearing masks, using the garage door entrance, and they've sealed off the kitchen from the rest of the house with plastic. We will stay upstairs while they're here, use the front door to the house, and we're headed out of town for a few days during the worst of it.
Hopefully this will all be done in three weeks. Fingers crossed there are no delays...
Day One: "It's Domination Day!" said CC. "Not quite," I said. "Demolition."
Un-installing all our cabinets, countertops, and appliances went much quicker than I thought. We used the Habitat Restore demo team, who hauled everything away and will re-sell it.
