Myrtle Beach

We spent Labor Day weekend in Myrtle Beach for the first time, and it was a nice weekend!

Army played their season opener against Coastal Carolina on Saturday night, so we decided to make a long weekend out of it and enjoy one last getaway before summer ends.

We started off the weekend with an evening at Medieval Times, which we all loved. MJ had been wanting to bring the kids there since he went with all his friends for Brett's bachelor party last year. We ate our dragon meat and cheered on the black-and-white knight and had a really enjoyable evening. The girls even had flowers thrown to them by our knight!

The rest of the weekend was quiet, mostly enjoying the pool complex. The girls and I took several long walks on the beach, where Amber discovered that it's okay to get your feet wet. CC learned how to build a house of cards, and both girls got their hair braided and beaded.

Unfortunately on Saturday Army lost, but we had an enjoyable time at the game, and tailgated with a group of very friendly Army fans/alumni (one of whom ended up being MJ's classmate!). Little Man talked a blue streak during the game to the older woman sitting next to him. She was completely enamored by his passion for Army football, and was "tickled" when he did pushups after every score.

Our condo was in North Myrtle Beach, because everyone told me that North Myrtle is "totally different" from Myrtle proper -- quieter, less crowded, more family-friendly. Our consensus: not north enough. Every night we were kept up well after midnight to pounding music, slamming doors, cars honking. The condo was near a restaurant that hosted a rowdy wedding on Saturday until after 1 am. And when we tried to go into Myrtle on Sunday to walk on the boardwalk and enjoy some rides, it was so crowded and hot, and parking was so far away, that we gave up before we even made it to the Strand.

The condo was lovely, and having Amber with us made the weekend even nicer. The beach and pool near our condo were very nice. The sunrises were beautiful. But I doubt the Morrisons will return -- there are too many other wonderful and quiet beaches for us to visit!
