The kids' favorite holiday of the year!
We had a quick dinner of "spooky skewers" that the kids loved (I melted some fresh mozzarella into molds for the skulls), and then they were off!
Sweet Pea and her friends went as Winnie the Pooh characters, and trick or treated together in Charlie's neighborhood. Sweet Pea was Pooh; Charlie was Eeyore; Mila was Tigger; and Sloane was Piglet. I snapped a few pictures before they headed out for the night. After they were done trick or treating, Mila and Sloane's mom took them home for a sleepover, so Sweet Pea had a pretty awesome Halloween night.
Little Man went as a Yiga Warrior (in keeping with his Halloween Zelda theme). We couldn't find a costume available online, so CC told him she'd make it for him, using a red sweatshirt and pants as the base. How nice! He was thrilled, and drew her several elaborate pictures showing her exactly what markings it needed, and in which colors. I ordered a few yards of fabric online in the correct colors, and then we waited for her to get it done.
And waited.
And waited.
And it turns out that although her heart was in the right place, she hadn't scheduled her time well enough. She was already helping with costumes for a local elementary school's production of Frozen Jr, plus keeping up with all her schoolwork. So the day before Halloween, when his costume still wasn't made, I went ahead and did it. CC was a little upset when she came home and saw I'd done it ("But I was going to do it!") but it was already last-minute enough. Little Man didn't care who made it, but he was thrilled when he saw that it was ready.
CC and her friends Camry and Nate decided to dress as the Chipmunks and trick or treat in Nate's neighborhood. They were so cute! CC was in charge of drawing their noses on, and it was really funny watching them bend. down for CC to reach them!
Nate's neighborhood has a reputation for being awesome on Halloween; they shut down several streets and get kids from all over the city. CC was impressed and came home with stories of wall-to-wall people and haunted houses. They got a lot of attention for their costumes, especially since they walked around blasting Chipmunks songs!
