One-Year Appointment

I realized yesterday that with all the preparations for and the excitement of CC's birthday weekend, I never posted about her one-year doctor's appointment.  Well, better late than never:

She's (still) as healthy as a horse, thank God.  We have been blessed from day one with a daughter who is strong and who radiates health.

Her body shape is starting to even out a little bit, probably due to the fact that she's walking now and expending a lot more calories.  She is 28 inches tall (15th percentile -- up from 10th at her 9-month appointment) and weighs 20 pounds 10 ounces (35th percentile -- down from 50th at her 9-month appointment).  MJ and I both think she looks less "chunky" and I'm sure she will continue to slim down as she gets older and even more mobile.

I didn't have any major concerns to address with the pediatrician, but I asked about CC's recent bouts of screaming.  Happy screaming, angry screaming, excited screaming -- it's almost constant.  The pediatrician laughed and said that CC is probably louder than the average baby, but it will get better as she learns to communicate better with us.  That's not exactly what I wanted to hear, considering she's not talking yet and has only learned 2 or 3 signs.  It could be a while before this screaming gets better!

Lastly, CC received three vaccines before we left.  Now that she's a "big girl," she gets them in her upper arms instead of in her thighs.  She was more upset than I've ever seen her, poor thing, and that's saying a lot.  She was crying so hard that she was almost having trouble breathing, taking gasping little breaths in between sobs, and it lasted almost until we got back home.

Next appointment: 15 months.  That one is scheduled for when we are within a month of the twins being born.  We will see how I'm doing -- it's possible MJ might have to take CC to that appointment!

I am surprised that they did them in the arm already. We had the legs this time around. Just wait till a blood draw comes...certainly not fun for us.

Omgoodness I can believe they gave her a shot in the arm. My little guy and CC are almost the same age and he got his shots in the thigh still. And I agree, he also got his blood drawn lets just say =(
