Our big girl turned 15 months this week!
No longer an infant, she is most definitely a toddler now, in every sense of the word. Her physical and verbal skills are improving literally every day, and it's amazing to witness. Here are a few highlights of what she's up to:
- Her comprehension of words is incredible. She understands almost everything I say, and is always surprising me. I can even give her multi-step instructions and she will understand and (mostly) obey, like, "Please get your sippy cup from the table and bring it over here to Mommy." And she knows the names of almost all her toys and books, as well as body parts (most recently her belly button).
- Her only current words are hi, Daddy, and cheese. She's pretty close to saying Mama, hat, hot, and a few others, but not quite there yet. She can rattle off a host of animal noises: dog, cat, snake, lamb, pig, monkey. And she makes a siren sound when playing with her fire truck.
- She's tall enough to reach things that are on the edge of our dining room and kitchen tables. The coffee table is almost entirely accessible to her. And recently she almost knocked over one of our narrow end tables.
- She has a whole mouthful of teeth: all four incisors on the top and bottom, and all four of her first molars. That leaves gaps on the four corners where her canines are supposed to be, and any day now I expect them to pop through (we can see them pushing up from below the surface of her gums).
- She dances to music now, swaying back and forth. And she loves to stomp her feet, especially on hard floors when her shoes make lots of noise.
- She has been very clingy with me lately, which is developmentally appropriate for this age, but nonetheless a little frustrating. When I am not around, she is perfectly happy to hang out with anyone who's there. But if I'm in sight, she usually will not allow anyone else to hold her without a fuss.
- She loves books and climbing and making towers out of her stacking cups. She is getting better and better at her chunky puzzles, often putting the pieces in the right spots without help. Same goes for her shape-sorting toys, although she mostly needs help finding the right openings for the right pieces.
- She is in her new carseat now, the one she will have for as long as she needs a carseat or booster (until she's 6?). She doesn't seem to enjoy it any more than her infant seat, but we're used to her fussing in the car anyway.
- She's still very physically affectionate with her stuffed animals, but not really with us. I actually got a few kisses from her for the first time this past week, but it's still a very rare occurence, and she treats it more as a game than an affectionate moment.
She had her 15-month appointment this past week, and received a clean bill of health. But our chunky monkey is turning into a peanut! Now she is just 20th percentile for weight and 10th percentile for height. The doctor isn't worried at all, but I find it funny that although CC started out so chunky and big for her age, she is "shrinking" with every appointment!
