Summer Splashing

While Daddy is away, the kids will play ...

I took them to our neighbor's pool for the first time this summer. Alice is so generous with her pool, and is always willing to help me with the kids in the water. I didn't know how Sweet Pea and Little Man would do, because it was really their first time in a pool (last summer doesn't count -- they were tiny and just sat in water seats). But I figured CC would be tentative, since last year it took her most of the summer before she was comfortable enough to let go of me.

Today, it took her about 15 minutes. After that, she was off to the races -- I don't think she touched the side of the pool again. She swam out to the diving board and back, across the pool multiple times, and was very proud of herself. And look what else she did -- without any help!!

You can hear Little Man towards the end of the video, saying "hi" and "wa wa" (water). He was right next to me while I was filming, and was trying his hardest to stand in front of the camera.

In the water, Little Man acted much like CC did last year. He clung to me, preferred to splash around on the pool steps, and was very nervous when I carried him in the water.

But Sweet Pea -- my goodness! She is a water bug for sure. She was swimming almost as well as CC! She's very comfortable letting go of me in the water, or only holding onto my finger, and thought it was funny to float on her back or kick around. She is so light, however, that her floatie would often slowly rotate her onto her back and leave her stranded like a giggling turtle.

(The kids all wore PuddleJumpers, which I highly recommend! The minimum weight is listed at 30 pounds, which not even CC is approaching yet, but since I keep the kids within arms' length in the pool, I'm comfortable with them.)
