Yesterday was a challenging day for CC. Lately she's been defiant and, well, three years old. To top it off, she didn't nap yesterday so she was deliriously overtired by dinner. It was very frustrating, and tough for me to keep my cool as I wrapped up the meal and got her ready for a (very) early bedtime.
She was still screaming her head off when I closed her bedroom door and went back downstairs. And still screaming when MJ arrived home from work about 15 minutes later. But by 6:30 she was out cold.
Reflecting later on my evening with her, I felt a little sad and guilty that my interactions with her at bedtime weren't entirely positive: warnings, timeouts, and crying. So when it was time to take her for a midnight pee, I gave her an extra snuggle on our way down the hall and said, "Mommy loves you so much."
She looked at me with sleepy eyes and said, "Daddy too."
"Yes, Daddy loves you too."
"And Memere and Pepere."
I smiled. "Yes, they love you too."
"And Grandma and Grandpa."
"Of course."
"And my friends."
"Naturally." I rolled my eyes. "Anyone else?"
"My cousins ..."
