Zoo-tastic

Last week we did something I've been wanting to do for almost a year now -- go to the zoo!

The day before we left, I broke the news to the kids. After they calmed down a bit, I asked them what animals they thought we would see. CC yelled, "Alpacas!" Wow. Definitely not the first thing I expected to hear.

As it turned out, we did not see any alpacas. But we saw practically everything else.

Little Man was hands-down the most adventurous with the animals. He's the only one that would feed the giraffe, or hold nectar for the lorakeets to drink. The girls watched from a distance, and shook their heads emphatically whenever we asked them if they wanted a turn.

CC's favorites were the flamingos. "Because they're pink," she explained. Naturally.

Sweet Pea loved the gorilla. I have to agree -- the gorilla was awesome. We got to watch it eat, and it was an impressive show.

Other highlights: kangaroos, howling monkeys (ridiculously loud), elephants, and penguins.

Little Man was thrilled to see a real live shark in the aquarium, even though it was a small one. I told him that one day we'll take him to a bigaquarium so he can see whales and large sharks, and even watch a dolphin show. Now the kids have that squarely on the top of their "to do" list. Maybe we have a trip to Baltimore or Atlanta in our future?
