On the 23rd, we met up with Patrick and Karen and the boys to see a Christmas show, and then went to lunch. Afterwards we walked around to see some decorations and listen to the bear orchestra play. There was some serious cousin bonding going on, which warmed my heart!
The next day we drove to see a local gingerbread house competition, which was pretty cool. There were some amazing creations on display! We also got a relatively decent family picture in the lobby, after enjoying some hot apple cider.
Christmas Eve was relaxed and calm, thanks to a) the Santa Sacks I made the kids last year (Santa didn't need to wrap any of his gifts!) and b) my mom helping me wrap the previous night. Kids were in bed early; the grownups put gifts under the tree, watched a Christmas special on TV, and hit the same early too.
The morning was awesome. The kids were really excited and we had a great time watching them. Thanks to my dad for being the official "package opener," armed with scissors and an extra load of patience. CC's favorite gifts: her Elsa barbie, a barbie doll house and her Elsa cape. Sweet Pea's favorites: Calico Critters, games (she runs the table when playing Memory) and her Leapster. Little Man's favorites: his bubble gun (although it frustrates him every time), a wand that spins around and -- in the last day or so -- Legos. He took his big-boy bicycle for a spin, but since then has ignored it.
Morrison family Christmases keep getting better and better. I'm already excited for next year! But I'll need the next 12 months to recover from this year. MJ and I were exhausted by 10 am! "Fewer presents next year!" he begged.
