Pumpkin Patch

Last weekend we went to a pumpkin patch -- one of the highlights of the year for the Morrison kids! This time it was a different farm, which had quite a lot to offer. Giant statues of farm animals, tractors and machinery to climb on, a functioning water wheel, hayrides, lots of massive tube slides, fields of beautiful sunflowers.

And pumpkins, of course. Tons of pumpkins. When I heard that this farm's pumpkins still grow on the vines, and that you walk out into the fields to pick your own, I thought it sounded great. But the idea was better than the reality. Vines twisted underfoot, tripping up the kids. Piles of fire ant hills lay in wait underneath. Thorns pulled at our socks and scratched the kids. MJ and I have never heard so much whining from our three! We made our pumpkin selections in record time and hightailed it out of there.

The kids loved the slides, although CC and Little Man climbed all the way up one corn crib, only to have a change of heart. So MJ had to slither his way up the kid-sized passages to slide down with them on his lap.

We love this farm! There's a great corn maze out this way too.
