Zoo Trip

Last week was spring break, and each Morrison kid got to pick one special thing to do. Sweet Pea picked Chuck E Cheese. Little Man picked the Lego store (to spend the remains of his Christmas gift card). And CC picked the zoo.

We don't go to the zoo very often, because it's pretty far from home. But I'm always up for an adventure. We got there just as the zoo was opening, which was great because it wasn't crowded at all, and the animals were pretty active.

Just before lunch, I said to the kids, "Oh my gosh! I'm so glad we came to the zoo today! I see the most amazing creature!" And there was Pepere, walking up meet us. The kids were so surprised to see him!

It was definitely one of the most fun trips we've taken to the zoo. The animals were out and about, and the weather was perfect -- not too warm or too cold. We got to see the rhinoceroses closer than we ever have before!

And the grizzly bear was just chilling, napping in the water with a rock as his pillow. The kids thought that was hilarious.

One of my favorite exhibits was the seal and sea lion tank. There's a large underwater viewing window where you can watch them swimming by.

CC and Sweet Pea asked to use my phone to try to capture them on video. I let them try a few times. But notice what happens: a gorgeous leopard seal swims right up to the window, and they don't even notice because they're trying to get the phone to work! After that, my phone went back into my purse.

Something interesting that I learned during our zoo trip: Little Man is an amazing navigator! He has an innate understanding of maps. He's never used one before, but once I showed him where we were on the map, he guided us the rest of the day. "There's a turn coming up!" he would announce, and sure enough, there was. "The gorillas will be the next animal!" he'd say, and as a matter of fact, they were.
