Final Meet

This weekend was Sweet Pea's final gymnastics meet of the season: the state competition. It was virtual, and -- even better -- we were allowed to have family members present. So Daddy, Little Man, CC, Grandma and Grandpa were able to watch! Since Sweet Pea was the only gymnast on her team to compete in her age bracket, we were the only spectators in the building. With the exception of the boys' team (which was holding a practice), we had the gym to ourselves.

Although the scoring at this meet was more stringent than in past meets, Sweet Pea's overall placement was very good. She came in FIRST for beam, second for bars, and second all-around! Scores were very tight -- coming down to tiebreakers and mere thousandths of points.

Her coaches were really happy with her performance (although irate at her floor score -- they insist her floor routine was exemplary and deserved much higher than a 9.375). They couldn't believe she was a STATE CHAMPION in beam in her first year! And silver all-around!

Typically, Sweet Pea was pretty stoic. She doesn't respond much when she first hears her standings. But after she had time to digest everything, she was pretty happy with her results.

Vault: 9.350 (9th)
Bars: 9.700 (2nd)
Beam: 9.625 (1st)
Floor: 9.375 (6th)
All-Around: 38.050 (2nd)

Sweet Pea already has big plans for next year. Despite her late start to gymnastics, she is determined to "catch up" to her friends on her team and perform at a higher level next year. As always, I am amazed at her tenacity and dedication. I am sure it will continue to pay off in the future!
