The 2021 swim season is over, and CC has fallen for the sport, hook line and sinker (see what I did there?). She is determined to join a local year-round swim program to really gain strength and improve her technique. Swimming is such a fantastic lifelong sport, and we're thrilled she has fallen in love with it.
She improved by leaps and bounds this year, which was really her first year (due to Covid, last year was an abbreviated and virtual-meet-only season). During the season, we watched her slowly move from the last heat in each event, to the second-to-last, and up again, reflecting her improved times. At her final meet this year, she placed fourth in breaststroke -- her best placement all year by far -- and therefore earned her first point for her team!
Here's a video of her season highlights (enjoy the music -- CC picked it herself). You can always spot her amidst the other swimmers by her bright pink goggles!

She earned three ribbons this season, all for breaststroke: for 8th place, 7th place, and 4th place (in her final three meets). But at the end-of-season awards banquet, CC was fit to burst when she was named "Most Improved" among 9-10 year old girls. "I think this is the best day of my life," she told me. "Better than when I turned double digits. I am so proud of myself!" Believe me, we are too!
Her team unfortunately just missed having an undefeated season by losing their final meet, but still took the 2021 league championship. The team celebrated with a huge potluck meal, team picture, and pool games with the coaches and families!
