Our old stairs were "faux hardwoods": they looked like they were hardwood with a carpet runner, but they actually just had hardwood caps on one end that gave the illusion that they were full hardwood.
Like all other household projects, this one had a bit of mission creep. Since we were replacing the stair treads, how about the trim near the stairs, that was never installed smoothly to begin with? How about replacing the railings and balusters? And adding a stair runner? And putting hardwoods in the hallway upstairs? And putting up picture molding on the walls? Check, check, check, and check.
The majority of the work was done while we were at the beach in August. All the touchups and our punch list were tackled while we were in Greenville. The polyurethane on the floors had to be stripped and re-applied three times. And then we had to wait 30 days before we could put a runner down. But now everything's officially done -- hallelujah!
The result is gorgeous. I'm so happy with it!
