One of Little Man's closest friends, Sage, has been involved with Boy Scouts for a while, and has been encouraging Little Man to join as well. This year, he finally decided to take the plunge.
I expected him to resist wearing a shirt with so many buttons and patches, but shockingly, he put it all on without a fuss. "The girls thought I'd look dorky in this uniform, but I make it look good!" he announced proudly.
I think he's really going to like it! The structure of the meetings and ranks fits well with his black-and-white outlook. The recitation of the Scout Oath, Pledge and Law is easy for someone with his memory. And the other kids seem very similar to him in nature: they're all good kids, if a little socially awkward.
He was sworn in in a sweet candlelit ceremony. He is already very motivated to earn his Eagle Scout, just like his Uncle Jon. "It'll really help me get into West Point!" he said. But we remind him that Scouting is primarily to have fun, make friends, and learn new skills. No pressure right now to focus on such long-range targets!
