17w1d Update

Warning: this is going to be a long post, so get comfortable!

First of all, HAPPY HALLOWEEN!  We had a blast last night!  I love living in such a family-oriented neighborhood, where we have lots of trick or treaters.  Some parents even bus their kids in from other neighborhoods.

MJ and I dressed up as rednecks.  This year was the first time we've ever dressed up for Halloween in the 9 years we've known each other, so it was quite an event:

Also this weekend was my neighborhood's annual block party.  We always do it on Halloween weekend, so the kids can wear their costumes and parade down the street.  The highlight of the party (for me) was when my friend Linda put "Yes - Pregnant!" stickers on my back and front so everyone would know.  At almost 4.5 months, I agreed it was finally time to break the news.  Everyone was thrilled and we received lots of hugs (me) and beers (MJ).

About two weeks ago, I received two gifts in the mail related to the baby: a belly band from my dear friend Carol, and a Babies R Us gift card from my Auntie Julie. It was a bit of a milestone day: the belly band (which helps hold your pants up when you're transitioning between regular and maternity clothes) was the first gift I received for my pregnancy, and the gift card was the first gift the baby received. Both gifts will be put to very good use in the next few months, and are much appreciated!

But I hadn't planned on buying all my baby-related necessities until January or so. That is, until my sister-in-law sent me a 20%-off coupon which expired last weekend. She strongly encouraged me to use it on a larger baby purchase to make the most of the discount. But what to get? I haven't even begun to research cribs, pack 'n' plays, bouncy seats, strollers, etc.

I decided to get a car seat. We know we will absolutely need one, and it was fairly easy to research and make a decision, because I based my decision purely on safety ratings. I decided on the Chicco Keyfit 30:

Fortunately all the baby stores take each other's coupons, because I had to go to three different places before I found a color I liked. In addition to the safety ratings, I like it because it is gender-neutral, and MJ likes it because the black and green combination isn't too "babyish."

In other news, the bloodwork from my latest appointment came back last week. This was the second of the sequential screening tests. This second test screened for Spina Bifida, as well as confirming the first test's Down's screening results, and again everything came back normal. Yippee! So far Otto has gotten an A+ on all his tests, and he isn't even born yet. :)
