11 Months

Happy 11 months, CC!  I can't believe you're so close to being one year old!

- She is getting much better at standing.  She can't get into a standing position from the floor yet, but if she has pulled herself upright she can let go and stand alone for quite a while.  Also, she can reach down, pick something up, and stand back up again.  And lately she's even been able to hold her sippy cup, tilt her head back, and drink from it herself, all while maintaining her balance.

- She's quite the daredevil.  She loves to climb over things, especially Jackson (the only dog tolerant enough to let her).  I will often glance in CC's direction just in time to see her feet disappearing over his massive shoulders.  She also loves being held upside down by Daddy.  And I have to protect my pregnant stomach when I'm laying on the floor, because she has a penchant for trying to jump on it!

- She isn't on the verge of walking yet (we don't think), but she's getting closer.  Now she can take several steps while only holding onto our finger with one of her hands.  It apparently requires a lot more coordination and balance than holding on with both hands, because she is much shakier, and can't do it for very long.

- She is starting to learn a few more signs.  She has been signing "all done" after her meals during the last week, and I think she's starting to sign "more."

- She has grown a fair bit more hair, but it's still not that noticeable in pictures.  I think the flash washes it out.  I'm going to try to take some pictures of her with natural light to see if it's more apparent.

- She is loud.  I mean, really loud.  Even when she's happy.  It's like she's learning just how much volume she can blast out of her lungs, and she wants to experiment in all kinds of inappropriate places -- like church.  She'll get a mischievious smile on her face, and will let loose with a shout that just amazes us.  We're starting to learn her early warning signals, but there's not much you can do when a baby wants to scream!

I'm trying not to hyperventilate when I think about her upcoming birthday party.  Yes, the invitations are ordered and arrangements have been made for the cake (thanks, Mom!).  But I don't have any ideas for favors or decorations.  All the other first birthday parties I've been to were fabulously creative so I am feeling a bit lost!

No need to worry. It'll be fabulous. Favors can be just for the little ones, and very simple, and you can't ask for a better decoration than CC!

One of the best pieces of advice I received from another mother around Matthew's first birthday was "McDonald's is an okay place to have a party". She was so right. I needed to hear that a mediocre venue in a child's mind is sometimes the best place. We've had so many parties at home now, Burger King (where they have a huge play place), etc. It's all good as long as the child has fun... Go easy on yourself! :)
