Party Hardy

We had a fantastic weekend!  There will be several posts about all our adventures, but this first one will be all about the party.  Woo hoo!

Sweet Pea and Little Man were welcomed into their second year with a bang.  Almost all our family members were there, including CC's cousins and aunt from Chicago.  Unfortunately it poured all day on Saturday, so everyone was cooped up inside -- which resulted in a pretty raucous event!  CC was in her element with all the attention and excitement.

MJ's parents flew in for the festivities, and we were lucky enough to have several days to visit with them before they returned home.  And they were invaluable (along with the kids' cousins and aunt) in keeping my three occupied and entertained while I got everything ready for the party.

We were also thrilled to have my sister-in-law Susan attend her very first Morrison birthday party (it seems there was always a conflict in the past!), with my brother Jon and Hayden and Dane.  Unfortunately my other brother, Patrick, couldn't attend because little Bryson has a bad cold.

We celebrated with an ice cream theme.  My mom made the gorgeous (and delicious) cake:

(names removed, of course!)

It had three layers inside: strawberry, white, and chocolate, like Neapolitan ice cream.

As I expected, Sweet Pea liked her "smash cake" -- a cupcake baked inside an ice cream cone.  Hers was strawberry, and once she tasted the frosting, she got a huge smile on her face.

Little Man, not surprisingly, didn't really love his chocolate cake (despite how he looks here -- not much frosting or cake got into his mouth!).

My mom also smocked the birthday boy and girl's outfits:

Seriously, how lucky am I?  There will definitely be a photo shoot featuring these outfits soon.

We had these for favors: pint-sized ice cream cartons filled with fun little trinkets.  The tops say, "Here's a cool treat for one of my sweetest friends!"

These super cute cones hung from every available light fixture:

(Yes, I made those.  Serious props for me, people.  I had to use a sewing machine.  And it was totally worth it!!)

And these were hung on walls around the downstairs, a picture for each month since the twins were born:

CC kept insisting that this banner said "Hayden" because it started with an H.

All in all, I was pretty pleased with the decor!

Despite the weather, we all had a good time.  And of course everyone was more than generous.  CC is thrilled with all "her" new toys and books!  But the best gifts Sweet Pea and Little Man received were exquisite Christmas stockings needlepointed by MJ's mom.  I can't wait to put them up at Christmas this year!

Stay tuned for more posts and pictures about our weekend visitors.  And a big THANK YOU to all our family and friends who helped me get ready for the party, attended, and otherwise showered our little treasures with love!

Spectacular decorations! The hanging ice cream cones were beautiful. Wish I could have been there. Happy Birthday!
