Renovation Week 4

After a week where not much happened on our renovation, Week 4 more than made up for it. A ton of changes happened around here!

Most significantly, a wall in CC's room was moved -- without affecting one minute of her life! I'd originally told my contractor that he couldn't start any construction in CC's current room until her new room is complete and she's moved. But the new bathroom couldn't be plumbed because one of her walls was in the way. So he proposed knocking the wall down --  but rebuilding it all in one day so she could still sleep in her room that night.

He came through like a champ. Here's what her room looked like at 2 pm last Wednesday:

Her wall is entirely missing, so you can see through the new bathroom, MJ's new room, and out the side window. At this point in the day, I was highly skeptical, and making plans for CC to sleep elsewhere in the house that night.

But by dinner time, it was done. I had to re-make her bed and dust all the residue, but here it was:

Half her closet is missing, and the new wall isn't sealed or painted. But it's framed, sheet rocked, insulated, and perfectly functional. And best yet, now the plumber can do what he needs to do without any delays.

The plumber did, indeed, do what he had to do. Which is: run plumbing to where the new bathroom will be. And since the new bathroom will be above our garage, we now have scaffolding and a lovely gaping hole in our garage ceiling:

I am thankful that the new bathroom will not be above, say, my dining room.

From inside the new bathroom space, this is what you see:

The toilet will be on the right, and the new shower is framed on the left (through the shower floor, you can see into our garage below).

So it's my turn to keep my car parked out on the driveway at night. Fortunately, the weather is better than it was when MJ had to park his car outside!

The HVAC team also came and installed all the duct work for the new space. Now the ceilings look like this:

And lastly, the electrician has been working like crazy to wire everything. We have these boxes installed in every room (and closet) now, to house future light switches and outlets:

There are no exterior shots this week, because the exterior of the house hasn't changed. But I'm thrilled to have had such a productive week!
