CC knew she would get shots at her checkup. We talked about them frequently leading up to the appointment. We acted them out with her doctor costume and medical kit. We discussed why we get vaccines, and how important vaccines are, and that they hurt a little bit.
CC insisted that she wouldn't cry. "Actually, Mommy," she reassured me, "I will laugh when I get shots."
Despite her cavalier attitude, shots were very much on her mind as we walked into the pediatric clinic. Fortunately, the nurse and doctor both asked CC lots of questions -- which she answered well, and which distracted her.
CC weighs 32 pounds (25th percentile) and is 37.5 inches tall (12th percentile). No surprise there, since CC has been on a similar growth curve since birth. The doctor assured me that CC is a very healthy weight.
The nurse returned to administer the shots, and CC didn't even cry ... until a few seconds after the nurse put little round band-aids over the injection sites. Then the waterworks started!
