Apple Picking

For three years now, I have wanted to go apple picking. And for three years, something has conspired against us: weather, MJ's work schedule, a poor apple crop. Finally this year we made it happen! And it was everything I hoped it'd be.

The branches of the apple trees were so loaded down with apples that they hung down to the ground -- so easy for the kids to walk up and pick their own. There were Red Delicious, Golden, and Sansa varieties. We took a tractor hayride out to the orchard, filled five bags full of apples, visited the little petting zoo, and picked and shucked our own corn to feed to the animals. What a fun outing! We will definitely do this again in future Septembers.

We've made apple cake so far, which was pretty delish. Next on my list is applesauce. I need to find a recipe that can keep, because we have about 15 pounds of apples!
