CC was thrilled to be invited to her friend Tia's birthday party. "Tia's really into Japanese culture lately," said her mom. "Feel free to come in costume!"
CC didn't need any more encouragement. We borrowed a kimono, put her hair in an elaborate up-do with chopsticks, and showed up at the bubble tea cafe for the party.
We couldn't have read the situation any more hilariously wrong. No one else was wearing a costume except for Tia, who was dressed an an anime character. The other girls were shrieking about K-Pop stars while CC and I stood there, clueless. The mothers adored CC in her little costume, and she even got a free dessert from the owner of the cafe -- but I couldn't stop laughing.
Happy birthday, Tia! Thank you for including CC in your celebration, no matter how badly we misunderstood the intent!
