First Appointment

This morning CC had her first pediatrician's appointment.  Item number one on the doctor's agenda was weighing CC to make sure she was continuing to grow.

MJ and I weren't too concerned -- CC nurses so well, we were confident that she had gained weight.  But even he and I were surprised to learn that she has already surpassed her birth weight!  She is 8 pounds 11.5 ounces now, 90th percentile in both height and weight.  The doctor was very impressed.  Apparently the goal for breastfed babies is to regain their birth weight by two weeks.  Our little piggie has exceeded that in just 6 days!

Predictably, CC threw a fit when she was being examined.  No shy wallflower, our daughter.  She was red faced and screaming so loud that the doctor couldn't even hear her heartbeat with a stethoscope!  The nurse came up with lots of helpful euphemisms for CC, like "healthy" and "vigorous" and "robust."  Ha!

But in the end, the most important thing is that CC is very healthy and doing great.  In fact, although the pediatrician usually recommends a two-week appointment for newborns, she told us that there is no need for CC to return until her one-month appointment.
