Renovation Week 2

I'm amazed at how much progress can be made in just two weeks. Look how far we've come!

The dormer is framed and enclosed:

You can't see from this angle, but the new roof is completely shingled now, so we are safe from rain and no longer need a giant blue tarp draped over the house every night.

The girls' new room in the back of the house is entirely framed out and enclosed:

Internally, the rooms and closets are all framed. I love seeing where everything will be, and watching the paper drafts come to life. We've made a few minor changes and additions to the architect's plans (cheers for a flexible contractor!).

Here's the girls' room, with two closets along the side wall and two windows looking onto the back yard:

You can see the framing for the new linen closet at the end of the hall:

(Behind it is a walk-in closet off MJ's room, which I will use for storage.)

I'm very pleased with how MJ's man room is shaping up. It will be quite large and full of natural light:

Overall, I'm happy with how things are going. Our contractor reports that so far we are slightly ahead of schedule and slightly under budget. The house is a hive of activity every day, including Saturdays. This week, in addition to the contractor's team of builders every day, we also had an HVAC team to re-route our hot water heater vent, and a team of roofers to complete the shingles. The noise and disruption doesn't bother me, because I know the more work is getting done, the sooner our renovation will be complete!

I've also been pleasantly surprised by how little dust has been in the rest of the house, and how warm our upstairs has remained.
