Bubble Party

We celebrated Sweet Pea and Little Man's 3rd birthday a week early, with a bubble bash at our house. Fortunately, the weather gods smiled on us, because I have no idea what we would have done if it had rained. There was no way we were doing bubbles inside the house!

Decor was minimal, simple picture bubbles on the wall of the twins taken during their third year:

The big decoration, of course, was the cake:

Always a masterpiece by my mom! I especially loved the navy color -- very dramatic.

Outside, there were tables set up with all kinds of bubble activities. There were trays of bubble liquid, and different things kids could use as bubble wands (pipe cleaners, fly swatters, etc). They could also "paint" with colored shaving-cream bubbles:

I love this stuff. It's so luscious looking, velvety and smooth.

The kids could make HUGE bubbles with a two-handled rope:

Dane demonstrated how to make a bubble snake with a cut-off water bottle:

There was a bubble machine running continuously, which led to some whimsical pictures like this one of MJ with my brother Jon:

Early on, I snuck Sweet Pea and Little Man away for a few minutes to get some pictures of them before they got drenched and/or filthy:

One of the most popular activities was a kiddie pool of bubble liquid and a hula hoop. Here's what we did with that:

Hayden won the prize for largest bubble!

It ended up being a good thing I took those pictures of Sweet Pea and Little Man. Because by the end of the party, here's what was going on in the kiddie pool:

Which led to this, by necessity:

After everyone was clean and dry, we opened gifts. Little Man absolutely loves his drill set, which can actually disassemble and reassemble some small vehicles. Sweet Pea is enamored with her purse, which included a "lipstick":

They both adore their new grill, and they helped Daddy put it together:

Grandma and Grandpa gave them some great new books:

And Little Man ended his day with a game of catch with Pepere:

Whew! What a fun, busy, hilarious, exhausting day! And although this wasn't a fancy party by any stretch, I believe it was one of the most enjoyable for everyone.

(Special thanks to Susan, who stayed up with me until 1 am the night before, helping me make roughly a thousand gallons of bubble fluid! Can you see why we needed so much?!)
